Throughout Part 1 of Be Not Still: Living in Uncertain Times, teen members at Boys & Girls Clubs of Napa Valley have worked with artist Sofía Córdova to create a series of works in response to the exhibition as part of a new partnership with di Rosa. The teens identified concrete themes drawn from what impacts both their personal lives as well as their communities at large. Discussions often opened with topical issues like violence and school shootings, feminism and gender equality, and social media and the internet.
The teens worked collectively on two projects: a series of portraits around the theme of identity and a themed dinner borrowing from social practice strategies around the topic of memory and nostalgia. Each teen then went on to create an individual body of work from a theme of their choosing. These individual projects include explorations about the labor of women, memory and place, and isolation in the age of the internet. Materials used range from performance to video to photography and painting.
Join participating teens in this culminating presentation to learn about their experience and projects during this special evening.
