Founders Day: A Celebration of Rene di Rosa’s Life and Legacy

Friends of di Rosa, including 65 collection artists, gathered on the birthday of Rene di Rosa to celebrate his life and legacy. Folks from Art Car Fest turned the courtyard into a bizarre car lot. Trio Soleá warmed up the crowd followed by a jam with Mike Henderson, William Wiley and friends. Artists spoke of their fond memories and deep connections to this wonderful place that Rene has entrusted to all of us. Many thanks to all of the volunteers, wineries, entertainers, and artists who made this day so special.

Enrique Chagoya: Surviving Paradise Opening Reception

An enthusiastic crowd turned out for the opening of Surviving Paradise/Sobreviviendo el Paraíso featuring impressive new works by Enrique Chagoya curated by Robert Wuilfe. Attendees incuded Ed Gilbert of Gallery Paule Anglim, Don and Era Farnsworth of Magnolia Editions, Noah Lang and Anthony Luzi of Electric Works and many di Rosa supporters. Special thanks to Amelia Ceja of Ceja Vineyards and Catherine Bergen of C CASA.

Artivore Antics: 9th Annual Benefit Art Auction

The lively event started with cocktails and a tribute to Rene di Rosa, the rest of the night was a feeding frenzy of artwork by renowned regional artists such as Nathan Oliveira, Deborah Oropallo, Enrique Chagoya, John Buck, William Wiley, Maria Porges and many more. Guests were attired in comic fashion under the balloons and satirical decorations by Michael Brennan. Special thanks to our sponsors: Saintsbury, Carneros Inn, Wilbur Ellis and Diablo Magazine and all those who bid to support the Fresh Art Fund and di Rosa.

Know the Rules-Then Break Them

Know the Rules–Then Break Them featured a selection of photographic works from the di Rosa collection, curated by Doreen Schmid. The works in this exhibition reflected how photography has evolved from traditional documentary device to embodying and shaping various postmodern movements. Artists included: Ruth Bernhard, Bruce Conner, Imogen Cunningham, Bill Dane, Judy Dater, Lynn Hershman, Paul Kos, Vilem Kriz, Noah Lang, Philip Makanna, Richard Misrach, Bruce Nauman, Jim Pomeroy, Meridel Rubenstein, Li Saiman, Carol Selter, Elizabeth Sunday, Larry Sultan, and Catherine Wagner. read more

Artivore Antics: Auction Preview

Visitors got a sneak peek at works in the live and silent auctions, including  renowned Bay Area artists such as: James Barsness, Chester Arnold, John Casey, Enrique Chagoya, Jason Jagel, Deborah Oropallo, Maria Porges, Rex Ray, Walter Robinson, Travis Somerville, Catherine Wagner, William Wiley and many more. Bidding began October 1 at the Preview Party and ended at the main event October 16th.

Onward! di Rosa’s Young Collectors Host Scavenger Hunt

Guests enjoyed a delectable feast of street food from Chairman Bao, Cochon Volant, and Soul Cocina while sampling wines from El Molino, Kristine Ashe Vineyards, Saunter Wines, Toolbox Wine Co., Westwood Wines, bubbles from Domaine Chandon, and mocktails with The Perfect Purèe of Napa Valley. Junkyard blues by 5 Cent Coffee played while teams formed to hunt through the garden for hidden eyeballs, identify clues in “Eye Spy Bingo” and create barely visible sculptures with artist Porous Walker. Desserts provided by Sift Cupcakery and Three Twins Ice Cream were the perfect ending to this lively night of forward thinking fun. Onward! di Rosa’s young collectors group, promotes creative encounters and connections between a new generation and the artists of our time and place.

POMP: New Work by Deborah Oropallo

POMP featured a range of new work by Deborah Oropallo, including pieces from her Guise and Wild Wild West series where she addresses the issue of adornment, pageantry, and costume. The Guise series is focused on 17th century portraits of aristocrats, emperors, and kings mingled with erotic costumes found on the web, while her Wild Wild West work plays on collective notions of American West pop mythology.
