About the Speakers:
Ned Kahn (b. 1960) has gained international prominence for his work combining art, science, and public space. Kahn worked as an apprentice to Frank Oppenheimer, the founder of San Francisco’s Exploratorium, during the 1980s and designed many notable exhibits for the institution. He has gone on to complete numerous public commissions around the world, including recent large-scale public projects in Fort Worth, Texas, and Perth, Australia. His Bay Area installations include Wind Portal (2003), installed in the Bart station at San Francisco Airport, Digitized Field (2004), adorning the side of the AT&T building in downtown Santa Rosa, and Erratic Fence (2014), atop the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. He is currently working on a new piece for the Transbay Transit Center in downtown San Francisco, set to open in fall 2017. Kahn is a 2003 recipient of the MacArthur Foundation’s genius grant. He lives and works in Sebastopol, CA.
Renny Pritikin has been a leading figure in the San Francisco Bay Area arts community for decades. His previous positions include serving as co-director of New Langton Arts in San Francisco from 1979 to 1992, chief curator at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts from 1992 to 2004, and director of the Nelson Gallery and Fine Arts Collection at the University of California, Davis from 2004 until 2012. He was appointed chief curator of The Contemporary Jewish Museum in 2014.
